On our most recent hike we got a work out that we were not expecting. We knew that it was going to be a hot one, but Halena had been asking about going for another hike and we love spending time to explore. So we thought why not. We decided to try a new trail. It was over a 5 mile trail and listed as strenuous, so we knew it was going to be a good one. With the temperatures rising we decided to re-route the trail and head up backward to decreased the distance to the scenic look on top. Boy was that a bad idea. There was definitely a reason that they advice to climb going to the direction that they do. We ended up hiking straight up the entire time. Mommy and Daddy's legs were burning, nothing like climbing with an extra 20-30 pounds on your back. Even the girls were sweating in their packs. This route probably was taking more time because of our shaky legs than if we would have hiked the greater distance. We decided to take a break for lunch before getting to the top. After our lunch it was time to head back down. Next time we will definitely head the advised direction. We will see the top of this trail, just not this day.
